Violent crime of an elderly woman in Santa Fe: the suspect is the victim's gardener

A 79-year-old woman was found murdered in her home in the city of San Javier, in Santa Fe, and for the crime the Police arrested a 42-year-old man whom she had denounced for robbery and intimidation. It was her gardener of hers.

The body of the victim, identified as Erminda Dominga Favot, was found this Tuesday afternoon: she was found with signs of violence, in a house that had signs of robbery, since it was totally disordered.

Hours later, Mario Humberto Romero, 42, was arrested, who had been denounced by the old woman on at least two occasions: for robbery and intimidation.

The case is being investigated by the prosecutor Francisco Cecchini, who ordered an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the police.

Police sources indicated that the relationship between the two originated when the man did some gardening work in the woman's house; but later Romero began to take advantage of Favot's vulnerability, who lived alone.

Those close to the victim recalled, according to their testimonies, that at the beginning of December Romero entered the woman's home with the excuse of using the bathroom. And there, he took a sum of money from her, the debit card and a piece of paper where he had written down the password to use it at ATMs.

Later, and during the weekend, Favot approached the 1st police station again. from San Javier to make a new complaint against Romero, who had once again gone to his house, although this time he was careful not to open it.

That same December 24, she requested police custody because she "felt insecure," according to the newspaper El Litoral. 

With this background, and when the woman was found dead, the police raided Romero's home, located at 1100 Curupí Street, in the La Flecha neighborhood.

There were found elements that incriminate the suspect: ATM tickets from the Favot account and a large sum of cash: 374 thousand pesos.

Romero, who will be charged in the next few hours as the perpetrator of the crime of "qualified homicide", was confined in a cell at the 1st police station. of San Javier, and in the next few hours an investigative statement will be taken.
