Parque de la Amistad will be closed for a few weeks

peru-news

The Municipality of Santiago de Surco informed through its social networks that the Parque de la Amistad, located within the same district, will remain closed for "a few weeks."

“Dear neighbor, the Parque de la Amistad will remain closed for a few weeks, with the aim of carrying out the necessary works to recover the presence it used to have. We appreciate your understanding,” he tweeted.

In the publication, the commune indicated that from Sunday, January 1, maintenance work will be carried out.

Friendship Park is, due to its tradition and its large 29-meter mosaic arch that symbolizes friendship, one of the busiest parks in Metropolitan Lima.

In 1924, the Spanish community gave Lima a large mosaic arch that was built on Arequipa avenue. Years later, the demolition of this arch was authorized to allow extensions of the avenue in which it was located.

With the intention of not losing this imposing structure,  in 2001 it was decided to build a replica of the mosaic arch that was inaugurated in the presence of the kings of Spain and was baptized as the arco de la amistad.

Within the 30,000 square meters that make up the park, in addition to finding the emblematic Arco de la Amistad, there is also a typical train station of the Peruvian highlands.

This train station is one of the main attractions of Parque de la Amistad, since it has a steam locomotive from 1926, known as 'El Surcanito″ and three wagons in which you can leave the park through 550 meters of railways.

Also, at the foot of the arch, there is an artificial lagoon in which park visitors usually take pedal boat rides, with a capacity of up to four people.

1. Take a ride on the Parque de la Amistad train

One of the children's favorites is the ride through 'El Surcanito', a steam locomotive from 1926 that has been restored and makes a 550-meter journey along the park's railway line.

2. Take a pedal boat ride through the lagoon

Another activity for children that is also practiced by couples is the boat ride through the park's artificial lagoon.

The boat is a bit small for adults but the ducks and fish make up for the ride. If it is children, be sure that they will love it.

3. Try the desserts and food

Not everything is walking in the Parque de la Amistad but it is a place to bring to light Peruvian gastronomy with dishes such as anticuchos, picarones or bread with chicharrón accompanied by its inevitable vase of well-iced purple chicha.

These stews are found in the Parque de la Amistad Food Court, also called “Pueblito Surcano”, where you will find colonial-style houses and Lima wheelbarrows.

4. Let the children relax in the playground

The little ones in the home also deserve a place to play, which is why to the right of the park's main gate there is a children's playground with games such as a swing and slides.

Remember not to leave them alone as this is a playground not a nursery.

5. Climb to the top of the Moorish arch

The Moorish arch has become the symbol of the park and as if that were not enough, you can access the viewpoint located at the top. From there you can take the best photos of Parque de la Amistad and appreciate part of the landscape.
