With only one day apart, two specimens of maned maned guazú appeared in urban and peri-urban areas of the province and a few kilometers away. In both cases, the animals were rescued from inside homes, where they surely came to take refuge.

This Wednesday, the Los Pumas Rural Guard worked on a procedure to rescue a female that appeared at an address on Roque Sáenz Peña street at 1600 Coronda, head of the San Jerónimo department. She was also present at the personal place of the Motorized Police and veterinary doctors.

After a significant effort, they managed to sedate her because the animal was somewhat upset, apparently because some dogs were running after her. The veterinarian Edmundo Claussen, who intervened with one of his children, said that according to what he was told by the province's Environment, they should take her to a reserve located in Wildermuth, also known as Estación Granadero Bustos, in the San Martín department. .

In Larrechea, a town in the San Jerónimo department located 132 kilometers north of Rosario and only 14 kilometers from Coronda, a man contacted the police on Tuesday to report that at his home, in the rural area of the town, there was a copy of aguará guazú

As a result of this fact, personnel from the 18th Police Station communicated with personnel from the Santa Fe Ecological Police, who together with the national wildlife ranger and the manager of the Farm in Desvío Arijón were present in order to examine the state of the animal and subsequent rescue. The animal was released in the Colastiné area.

The episode was striking, since the animal even ate balanced food in the place where it took refuge, which gave the idea that it could have already been in contact with human beings, and even semi-domesticated.

Located in the category of "near threatened" on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the maned maned wolf, also called the maned wolf, is increasingly cornered by threats of all kinds that force it to modify their habits and customs in their struggle to survive.

The progressive reduction of grassland areas and wetlands is pushing the species towards more populated sectors, where the dangers that put it in check increase: run overs, hunts, confrontations with dogs and diseases.

At the same time, scientific research to gain an in-depth understanding of the biology of these animals has multiplied, along with environmental education initiatives, rescue strategies, and rehabilitation centers.
