The lawyer of Major PNP David Medina, Stefano Miranda, referred to the retirement pass suffered by his sponsor in the midst of his work for the Public Ministry.

Medina Guillén was discharged by the Ministry of the Interior, chaired by Minister Víctor Rojas Herrera, and prevented from continuing, in this way, with his work in the Special team to Support Prosecutors against Power Corruption.

The coordinator of this group, prosecutor Marita Barreto, publicly denounced that the investigations carried out by the Prosecutor's Office are being "disturbed." The official stressed that not only Major Medina was removed from the Special Team, but also three other captains.

"What we are experiencing is a political revenge through the legality of the renewal of cadres," said the legal defender. The lawyer explained that Medina Guillén carried out field work, previously, and that when requesting records in one of the ministries he was not received pleasantly.

“He was attended by General Montoya Mori, as well as other officers, and they wrote down his name because they did not like that my client was reviewing and drawing up the minutes. That is why today we have an act of retaliation, ”he emphasized.

According to Miranda, various lawyers for officers, "who defend these causes," are aware that "the process of renewing cadres is used, by the high command, to get officers who fight against corruption out of the way" inside of the National Police (PNP).

In addition, he questioned that General Méndez Lengua, implicated in the case of irregular promotions in the Armed Forces (FF.AA.) and the PNP, was appointed member of the board in charge of the cadre renewal process, a procedure in which Medina was granted his retirement pass.

"If that general is involved in this fact, how is he going to be the one who can have the fate of the police officers in his hands?", he rebuked.

Stefano Miranda also referred to the disciplinary process that followed PNP Major David Medina. Days before, Minister Víctor Rojas Herrera explained that the police force "has five days of rigorous arrest, exactly for breaches of decorum."

“What the Minister of the Interior has pointed out is true, the older Medina has more than ten years in the grade and does not have the senior course. [But] the sanction that he has is from the year 98. Any officer knows that before the disciplinary regime was vulneratory, any person did not have the right to defense. It is from the year 98 those five days of rigorous arrest that the Major has, ”said the legal defender.

The lawyer remarked that despite this situation, Medina Guillén has different recognitions for his outstanding work within the National Police.

“It also has decorations, ministerial resolutions for distinguished actions and incentives. Although it is true that he may not have some requirements, behind him there are thousands who do not meet the requirements and are not going into retirement, ”she said.
