Tragedy in Mendoza: a woman died after falling into the void for a selfie in the Atuel Canyon

Mendoza

A 39-year-old woman died this Monday after falling from a cliff while taking a selfie in the Atuel Canyon, in the city of San Rafael, in Mendoza.

The tragic Accident happened on Monday morning when the victim, a native of Buenos Aires, was with her partner and son visiting one of the most tourist destinations in that province.

Natalia Elizabeth Ramallo, as she was identified, chose to portray the moment with a photo. But to get her out of it, she made sure to get as much of the scenery behind her out, so she perched on a rock located near the precipice.

It was then that the woman lost her balance and fell into the void from about 100 meters high, dying on the spot due to the strong blow.

The fact was alerted by her husband who quickly called 911 to report that his partner had fallen on the side of the mountain.

Consequently, firefighters arrived at the scene and worked to rescue the woman together with SEC (Emergency Service) personnel who verified the death at the scene, where the agents collaborated with ropes to rescue the body.

According to reports from the police, everything happened on route 173, El Nihuil, where the Atuel Canyon snails begin. "The woman was taking a picture on a rock, she lost her balance and fell into the void," they said.

Likewise, it transpired that in the upper part of the rock were her husband and her little son.

Finally, it was reported that Scientific Police personnel worked at the scene, and that the case was classified as an "accident followed by death."

An Argentine tourist identified as Inés Gomila  (36 years old) died at the end of November when she was hit by a wave while taking pictures of the sea in the middle of a storm on the picturesque Amalfi Coast of Italy.

Her husband managed to save his life after clinging to the rocks, and was treated at the Castiglione di Ravello hospital.

The couple was visiting the town of Furore, in the province of Salerno, near Naples. It is one of the most desired and exclusive tourist areas in Italy.

A storm had broken out in the place but they both decided to go closer to the sea, presumably to take some photos, when they were hit by a wave that dragged the woman away.

His lifeless body was later recovered from the water by the Coast Guard.
